"When the Salik (one traveling on the path of Tasawwuf) begins to undergo hardships and does Zikr of Allah, he feels some pressure upon him (finds this rectification as hard to do). When he continues these hardships with a truthful heart, then Allah gives him the tawfeeq (ability) and his hardships become easy."
"Ilm (knowledge) is gained by means of the books and Aql (intelligence) is natural. Once, Hadhrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to Mak'hul Shaami that you learned Ilm and became dear in the sight of people, at least now you should act upon this knowledge to become dear in the sight of Allah. Abdullah bin Mubaraak says: 'When I began to learn the worldly knowledge, it started to erase my religious knowledge, therefore, I left the knowledge of the world."
"Kamaal (a degree in Tasawwuf in which one is fully balanced in all good and desirable characteristics) comes in the salik (one traveling on the path of Tasawwuf) by means of four things: 1. To eat less, 2. To speak less, 3. To sleep less and 4. To lessen intermingling among people."
"To hurt the believer is to hurt Allah. The true believer is such that if he is in the East, he feels the pain of his brother pinched by a thorn in the West. The true believer is the one who never curses any Muslim brother in any condition."
"If your neighbor asks you for a loan, lend it to him. If he has a need to be fulfilled, fulfill it. Comfort him while he is sick and empathize with him in any calamity."
He would frequently say: "Only those people are true Masa'ikh (Elders of Tasawwuf) whose Zaahir (outer self) and Baatin (inner self) is reformed."
