Biography of Arif Billah Hazrat Molana Shah Hakeem Mohammad Akhter Sahab DB

Arif Billah Hazrat Moulana Shah Hakim Mohammad Akhtar (D.B) is probably one of the most influential Muslim Sufi Shaikhs of the current times. Hazrat’s real name is Mohammad Akhtar but Hazrat is more popularly known as Hakim Akhtar because of a degree Hazrat holds in Hikmat (Eastern Medicine), although Hazrat never reportedly operated a full time Matab (Clinic) as a profession. Born in 1928 in the (then) undivided India, Hazrat was raised learning regular school and studied ‘Tib’ (Oriental Medicine) at A.K. Tibiyya College, Allahabad.

Since Hazrat’s early ages he had a natural inclination towards Islamic Sufism and Masnavi of Maulana Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi. Having a strong affiliation towards the Deobandi tradition of Islamic scholars and recognizing the importance of Tariqah in his youth, he traversed the path under the guidance of Maulana Shah Mohammad Ahmed Partab Garhi (Rehmatullah Alailh), Maulana Shah Abdul Ghani Phoolpoori (Rehmatullah Alailh) and later with Maulana Shah Abrarul Haq (Rehmatullah Alailh).
Hazrat spent his 17 youthful years with Maulana Shah Abdul Ghani, his spiritual mentor(Sheikh), in a small Indian town of Azam Gardh. Maulana Shah Abdul Ghani was the principal of Darul Uloom Deoband for a number of years. Hazrat completed his formal religious education during his stay with his Shah Abdu;a Ghani (Rehmatullah Alailh). After the death of Shah Abdula Ghani (Rehmatullah Alailh) he took bayt (pledge) with Maulana Shah Abrarul Haq (Rehmatullah Alailh). and was authorized by his second mentor in Silsila e Ashrafia: Chistiyyah, Naqshbandiyah, Qadiriyah and Suharwardiyah.

Hazrat Moulana Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (D.B.) is a glittering star amongst the “Walis” of Allah.
Hazrat Moulana’s heart is brimming with the LOVE of Allah Ta’ ala and His beloved Rasool Sayyedena Muhammad Salallah-o-Alih-e-wa-sallam. Readers of Hazrat Moulana Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb’s (D.B.) writings and listeners of his speeches are in reality drinking from the three fountains of knowledge and sincere LOVE for Allah Ta’ ala and His beloved Rasool Sayyedena Muhammad Salallah-o-Alih-e-wa-sallam. These three great spiritual fountains are Hazrat Moulana Shah Abdul Ghani Saheb (RA.), Hazrat Moulana Shah Muhammad Ahmed Saheb (RA.) and Hazrat Moulana Shah Abrarul Haq Saheb (M.Z.) of India, in whose company Hazrat spent many years of his life and received ‘khilafat’ from them.
Hazrat MoulaI)a Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb -(D.B.) is the author of a large number of books on various subjects, but specialising in ‘Tasawwuf’ and the “Maarefat” recognition of Allah Ta’ ala. His commentary of the ‘Masnawi Shareef’ of Moulana Rumi Saheb (RA.) has been hailed by great Ulama
such as Moulana Yusuf Binori Saheb (RA.), Shaikh Zakaria Saheb (R.A.), Moulana Manzoor Nomani Saheb (RA.) and Moulana Shah Abrarul Haq Rehmatullah alaih (his own Shaikh), as a commentary which ignites the love of Allah Ta’ ala and which has deep effect on the hearts of the readers.
He has thousands of ‘Mureeds’ (disciples) in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, America, England, Canada, South Africa, Reunion and many other parts of the world.
